Coming Soon Barrel-Aged Torrey Pines IPA- barrel-aged for 3 months in an American white oak toasted barrel. The barrel adds flavors of fresh oak, coconut and fruit with a hint of honey, roasted nuts and spice to the aroma.
Oggi’s Restaurants are pleased to announce their new exclusive oak barrel aged beer program to debut at all Oggi’s stores by this summer. Oggi’s is aging select beers in custom made American Oak Whiskey and Bourbon style barrels for up to 6 months. During that process we expect the beer to pick up oaky, smoky vanilla, caramel and toffee flavors. The beers that will be aged will rotate out of each store approximately every 3 months with exclusive beers including McGarvey’s Scottish Ale, Black Magic Stout, Double Up Double IPA and our famous Torrey Pines IPA.
Oak provides flavor and aromatic support to the beer, while adding richer, fuller impressions and complexity. On the nose, oak’s primary influences tend to accentuate aromas that center around the spice rack, with clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and “allspice” being common aromas derived from a beer’s time spent in oak. On the palate, oak’s influence turns towards the rich flavors of caramel, coconut, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, smoke, tea, mocha and toffee.
These gourmets, barrel aged beers are exclusive to Oggi’s Restaurants and join their other National and International medal winning beers at each location. They will be offered in special 13 ounce glasses and are targeted towards wine lovers as support for the general “winefication” that is taking place in the craft beer industry. Oggi’s is a brewery and restaurant, native to San Diego. Like many places it serves pizza and beer, the classic combination. It does so quite well, afterall pizza and beer is one meal that is very difficult to get wrong.
Oggi’s has the added bonus of having a variety of beer on offer, with the extra benefit of suggesting a beer for each meal. All done right on the menu. Their descriptions of their beer are quite apt.
The Duck Dive Hefeweizen for example is described as having a creamy taste, and while I would attribute this to it, the beer can be said to be extremely pleasant. This is made more so by the addition of a lemon wedge, which when squeezed and droped in the the ‘Hefe’ gives the SoCal vibe to the classic shandy or radler. Don’t let its mild taste, and surf warn color fool you, it is good with any pizza.
The same can be said for the Paradise Pale Ale. It was smooth and refreshing with the simple pure elegance of a classic pale ale without the over indulgent hoppiness that at times can be too overwhelming. This beer would do quite well in Europe based on its simplicity alone.
Speaking of Europe, Oggi’s also offers McGarvey’s Scottish Ale which is very reminiscent of Newcastle Brown Ale. If anything it is a more mild version of Newcastle, which isn’t in Scotland, and with undertones of caramel. Quite possibly a hint of molasses.
To round out an evening at Oggi’s, I recommend the Sunset Amber Ale. A hint of orange gives it both its color and its flavor; allowing you to sit and enjoy a pleasant ale as the evening wanes.
All told Oggi’s knows what they’re doing, what with eight different beers. The only problem is that they offer only one lager and that’s a light beer. There is no middle of the road beer to choose that would accompany any pizza at any time, or simply satisfy one’s thirst for beer. What Oggi’s offers is well-crafted, American style beers with plenty of flavor and variety, so don’t expect to be served some mere yeast flavored water with a hint of alcohol to accompany your pizza like you can buy in any store. Oggi’s isn’t the place for that.

Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Co. is a unique, popular, casual-dining franchise that integrates the American passion for sports, proprietary award-winning micro-brewed beers and a varied menu that satiates with delicious food.
Twenty-one years ago, two brothers were working in the high-tech industry where their livelihoods were controlled by others. They dreamed of opening their own business, to manage their own destinies and build a future for their families. And so, Oggi’s was borne. The first restaurant opened in Del Mar, San Diego, in 1991.
After five years of operating an extremely successful restaurant and developing the Oggi’s brand into what it is today, the brothers were approached by numerous people to franchise the concept. Franchising since 1995, Oggi’s has grown throughout the years by word of mouth alone.
For the last 10 years, Oggi’s has built a well-known regional name and customer following by co-branding with local sports teams, including the San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Anaheim Ducks, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, and the Phoenix Coyotes. This strategy continues today in current markets, and will be expanded as Oggi’s enters new strategic markets.
In ongoing efforts to maintain our competitive edge and sustain our successful growth objectives, Oggi’s continues to evolve and enhance its customer experience through a new restaurant model that will improve cost efficiencies. It is important that we evolve our concept as our customer evolves. We are now launching the next generation of Oggi’s — a contemporary restaurant model inside and out that will focus on our core competencies of sports, beer and pizza.
To compliment our new Oggi’s restaurant design, we will be launching a new logo in 2013 that replaces our branding tag “Pizza & Brewing Co.” with “Sports, Brewhouse, Pizza”.
If you have been to an Oggi’s before, you will know that we are a family friendly restaurant, which is probably what makes us so unique, coupled with our other core competencies of sports, beer and pizza. Our restaurants have TVs placed all throughout the bar and restaurant dining area and are focused on the latest sporting events. In our new design we have expanded the bar area and placed an even bigger emphasis on Oggi’s beers and guest beers, making us a true Brewhouse. While our core design requirements will always have our restaurant remain family friendly because of our emphasis on pizza, we have created a truly unique integration of a relevant and exciting sports theme that does not cross over into the family space. Our experience has allowed us to create this new dual functioning food and bar opportunity, while serving all categories of our customer base in an environment that is unmatched in restaurant designs today.
As listed in our current FDD, our Item 19 reports our average store revenue is $2.1 million. With the enhancements to the new Oggi’s Sports, Brewhouse, Pizza restaurant and core product attributes, there is the opportunity to increase our customer base and sales volume, while decreasing store opening costs. All new Oggi’s franchised locations in 2013 and on will be built utilizing the new brand standards.
As we see the economy improving we have turned our attention to grow the franchise throughout California, Arizona and neighboring states. We are currently looking for area developers to expand into new markets and multi-unit operators all throughout our underdeveloped markets. It’s an exciting time at Oggi’s and we wanted to tell everyone all about it!
The Santee Santas Foundation 2012 Holiday Program was another huge success. We helped 211 families and seniors along with 396 children in our community have a great holiday season by providing the fixings for a holiday meal along with enough staple items to last each family about 2 weeks.
According to our sign in sheets, we had 173 volunteers on December 12, 13, and 14, for sorting food;92 volunteers on December 15thfor packing the family boxes; a total of 97 volunteers for toy selection and wrapping; and 85volunteers on December 20 for deliveries. That is a total of 447 volunteers. Thanks to all our volunteers. Without you, Santee Santas could not successfully carry out our holiday program each year.
Additionally, we would like to thank the following local businesses for providing food and beverages for our volunteers during delivery day and other events during the holiday season: Karl and Melina Zeitsen from Eccentric International Chefs; Duane Parks of Coffee Corner; Larry and Kathy Clark of Santee’s Pizza; George and Nancy Oriotis of Roundtable Pizza; and Ryan and Janis Deady of Santee Oggi’s Pizza and Brewing Company.
Santee Santas Board of Directors would like to extend a “special” thank you to Ryan and Janis Deady of Oggi’s for their generosity to Santee Santas – not only did they donate pizzas to feed our volunteers on Delivery Day and host a fundraising event to raise money for us, but also for donating coupons for each of our 211 families to enjoy a “free” pizza from Oggi’s Santee.
